BIM Program function: Sectioning of 3D BIM Model



This posting is to study how to use "Sectioning" function of construction BIM (Building Information Modeling) program, performa Manager. When you section the BIM objects in 3D after choosing a plane to see, the program will visualize the sections as doing parallel movement to the plane you selected. 


Let's try using the sectioning function as follows: 

▷ In performa Manager, import and visualize BIM model data (IFC file) in 3D and then click "Section" icon. 









▷ When transparent blue screen appears,  choose which plane of the building to be sectioned.










▷ After deciding which plane to see, move the mouse on the transparent blue screen, and the screen will do parallel movement the selected section plane showing the planes cut by the screen. 









▷ You can rotate the transparent blue screen and do parallel movement to the direction rotated showing the planes cut by the screen.   









▷ When you click "Visible Section Plane" icon next to "Section", the transparent blue screen which covered the sectioned place will disappear.




                                                 The Blue screen which expressed sectioning is removed.

The Singapore Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Conference



The Singapore Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Conference is being held at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Center. (24, 25 Aug. 2016)

The Singapore WSH Conference 2016 is co-organised by WSH Council, WSH Institute and Ministry of Manpower (MOM) of Singapore.

The theme of Singapore WSH Conference 2016 is "Total WSH: The Future of Our Workplace". Especially, it focuses on adopting innovative approaches to manage safety and health risks in the workplace.

The CEO of Quartz Sys Dr. Sohn has attended the Conference as he was invited by National University of Singapore (NUS). He also attended the dinner to network with authorities and industry to market IPASS.

Quartz Sys developed IPASS system for the Research titled "IPASS: An innovative BIM tool to determine productivity and safety index" which WSH, BCA (Building Construction Authority) and NUS worked on together.

BIM Clash Detection & 3D Annotation in performa Manager



This posting has a video to show how to conduct clash detection and 3D annotation on BIM models imported in the IFC file format using performa Manager

Clash Detection Tool for BIM (Building Information Modeling)-designed Model

 Clash test can help reduce the risk of human errors made during and after BIM designing, and minimize waste & rework.  
This posting is to show how to conduct clash detection between various objects of a BIM-designed model through using BIM program. (performa Manager)

First, import the IFC file of a model, which was BIM-designed in authoring tool such as Revit, in performa Manager. (IFC file importing) 
After 3D shape of the model appears in the screen, click the "Clash Detection" button.  







When you click "Clash Detection" and "Add" button, "Clash Rule" window pops up.







Input the name of clash rule in the blank of "Rule Name", and then select a type of object to conduct clash detection and arrange tolerance threshold. If all objects are targeted, tick the "All Objects" box. After setting the object type and tolerance threshold, click "Save" button.







When you click "Check" button, Clash Detection is conducted.







After clash detection, you can check the list of clashed objects in "Clash Result".
When any object of them chosen, it will be visualized in 3D in the screen.
If you want to see the result of clash detection by floor, tick the "Floor" box.







If you want to see the result of clash detection in floor plan view, tick the "Foot Print" box.







If you want to mark anything on the clashed part, you can use "Markup" and "Annotation" function.











After marking the clashed part, click "Annotation" button and then "New" button, and "Edit Markup" window will pop up. You can make an annotation regarding the clash to share with other people concerned.










The markup and annotation can be exported as BCF file.

Visualization of BIM Data with GIS information: performa Urbanscape

BIM Program 3D Viewer functions : Diverse View Modes & Snap Shot


BIM (Building Information Modeling) software having IFC Viewer offers diverse View modes  so that users can get building objects' information from the data more efficiently.

This post is to show various kinds of 3D View modes of Quartz Sys's BIM program  (performa Manager), and the function of 'Snap Shot'






3D View Modes 

1. Orthogonal View Mode

Orthogonal View Mode visualizes BIM object information of buildings vertically or horizontally. Click the icon 'Orthogonal Mode' as the following picture shows, and you can use the function.




2. Perspective View Mode 


Perspective View Mode visualizes BIM object information of buildings supplying perspective. In the mode, building objects can be expressed more realistically compared with Orthogonal View Mode.






3. Transparent View Mode 


Transparent View Mode visualizes building objects like transparent glass. By moving Control Bar, transparency can be adjusted.







4. Foot Print View Mode


In Foot Print View Mode, building objects are visualized as 2D drawings and the 2D drawings can be presented in 3D by level or by user's choice.


  




5. Zone View Mode

Zone View Mode visualizes building objects by zone which user grouped specific objects. Each zone can be expressed as different color. User can remove or add zones.





6. Polygon Edge View Mode

Polygon Edge View Mode visualizes building objects with their edge lines emphasized. Especially, performa Manager has a distinguished ability to express objects' polygon edges. 








Snap Shot function

"Snap Shot" is a function to capture a specific 3D view visualized by BIM viewer. The captured views are saved automatically in the program and user can delete any of the saved views if necessary. And, if you want to see all of the captured views at once, just click the play button as shown in the following picture. You can also save the captures as file.
